Materials and supplies

  • Ugly pillows that you’d like to cover up. If you don’t have any, you could fill your pillow covers with poly-fill instead. Another option would be to buy some at a thrift store, but you’ll need to send them to the dry-cleaners first (bed bugs are no fun!).
  • Scrap yarn (I used what I had left from the ottoman covers)
  • Knitting needles
  • Yarn needle

DIY knit tutorial: directions

1. First, you need to figure out your gauge. Once you know how many stitches you need, cast enough to knit this cable pattern.

2. Then, knit a strip long enough to cover both sides of your pillow. This way, you can minimize the number of seams that you’ll have to sew later. But if you prefer to knit smaller sections, then knit each side of the pillow separately.

3. Then, wrap your knit around your pillow and stitch the edges. You can use a mattress stitch, it always look nice and it gives you a nice, polished finish.

And you are done! Enjoy your new pillow covers, and stay tuned for more fun and easy diy projects!
