Supplies

  • An empty wine bottle
  • Gold spray paint
  • Mod Podge (or some type of glue)
  • Glitter
  • A sponge applicator or a brush
  • A gold ribbon or trim (optional)

Directions

1 .First, make sure that your wine bottle is clean and dry. Spray the empty wine bottle with the gold spray paint and let dry (it dries really fast!).

2. Then, you are going to lay some old newspapers on your work area and start applying the mod podge to the bottom of the wine bottle. I used a sponge applicator, but you can also use a brush.

3. Now, sprinkle the gold glitter all over the glue. When you are done, shake the bottle to get rid of the extra glitter that did not adhere to the bottle.

You will have A LOT of fall out! Make sure to put it back in your glitter container using the newspaper as an improvised funnel.

4. You are almost done! That is one of the nice things about wine bottle crafts: you can completely transform a glass bottle in a few minutes!

If you want to, you can tie some ribbon or trim in a color palette that complements the gold, like I did.

And you are all done!

If you are wondering why my wine bottle has a hole it’s because it’s an incense burner. This is how it works: you will need to make a hole in the bottle for the smoke to come out.

This can be done quite easily with a special drill attachment for glass and ceramics; here are some instructions on how to drill glass.

Then, you need a key ring to hold the incense while you are burning it. Make sure the ring is big enough to be placed on top of the bottle when you are not using it.

diy fashion: Zebra t-shirt

Update your wardrobe with BellaV’s diy fashion tutorials

Refashion your clothes with this diy fashion tutorial and create your own individual style without spending a penny.

It’s been a while since I made my lovely heart t-shirt, so I decided to create a new t-shirt.

Upcycling clothes is not only fun, but also much easier than it looks like. This is how I made my new favorite t-shirt.

Supplies

This is what you need to make this shirt:

  • An old t-shirt that you don’t like/wear any more
  • Scrap fabric (jersey is best)
  • A fabric pencil
  • Thread
  • Sewing needle
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • A measuring tape

Instructions: diy fashion

1. First, cut off the sleeves and the neckline following the existing seams.

2. Then, cut the front of the t-shirt through the center.

3. Now, you are going to fold the t-shirt so that the front halves are exactly on top of each other. Measure where you want your neckline to hit your chest, and cut the top parts.

By overlapping the two front halves you ensure that your front parts have the same height.

4. Then, you are going to do the same lengthwise: measure how wide you would like your front left and right sides to be and cut the shirt lengthwise.

Once again, make sure that each front side is overlapped exactly one on top of the other to ensure that both left and right sides are symmetrical.

5. Measure where you would like the backline to hit your back, and cut.

This is easier to do if you fold the back in half. Cutting smaller seams is much easier than longer pieces of fabric!

6. Now you are ready to incorporate the second fabric into your shirt. Measure the gap between the front left and right sides, and cut a rectangle of the second fabric. Leave a couple of inches on each of the four sides for seams.

7. Sew the print rectangle to each front side of the shirt.

8. Measure each armpit lengthwise and cut a 1.5 – 2 inch strip of the solid color t-shirt fabric. Attach each strip to each armpit making sure to fold the strip over itself.

9. Cut the extra fabric left on the inside of each armpit.

10. Measure how tight and wide you’d like the waist to be, and cut a rectangle of the print fabric. I wanted a “baggy” look for my shirt, so I made the waist strip smaller than the actual measurement of the shirt. If you do this, you will have to gather the shirt seam before attaching the waist strip.

11. Then, do the same for both the front and back necklines. Measure how wide you’d like the front and back necklines to be, cut two rectangles of the print fabric and sew to each front and back.

12. Finally, measure how long and wide you’d like your straps to be. I opted for a tank-top style, but you may choose to add spaghetti straps, for example.

Once you have attached each strap, you are all done!

Enjoy! Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you like my step by step diy fashion tutorial 😀

As always, leave a comment and let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to show me how your refashioning projects turn out!

Underwater: Drawings inspired by Yellena prints

drawings, zentangle inspired, flowre doodle

Some of the ideas that I get for my drawings start out as pure admiration for other artists. I am a member of the Phoenix Art Museum and I try to go regularly, both to enjoy art, and to get inspired. But I don’t seek inspiration in museums only. On the contrary, I often find myself being inspired by my surroundings and by things I come across online.

“Underwater” is one of those drawings. I had recently discovered a print artist on etsy, and I loved her aesthetics so much that I tried to recreate one of her prints.

To create this drawing I used a variety of drawing supplies: gel pens, metallic sharpies, watercolor pencils, Prismacolor pencils, and Pigma Micron pens by Sakura on sketch paper.

Inspiration

I found this print by Yellena on Etsy, and I fell in love with the style immediately. It reminds me of the prints made by Liberty, which I love. The shapes, the colors, the composition… I just loved everything about this print and I will be purchasing Yellena’s art in the future for sure!

Now, I have no idea how to make prints, but I can draw. At first, I wanted to just recreate the print in one of my drawings, but as I was working on it, I found myself adding my own touches here and there.

Even though the drawing is VERY similar to the print, which was my original intention, it also has a little bit of BellaV in it.

Underwater drawings

I truly admire the artist that created the original print, I find her prints very inspiring and I am glad I came across her art. The main reason why Yellena’s prints are so appealing to me is because they remind me of underwater worlds with a touch of surrealism, which is a theme that seems to surface a lot in my original drawings, like this zentangle.

Leave a comment, and share your art too!

Feather hair clip

Add spice to your flapper costume with a handmade feather hair clip

This feather hair clip is a specialty item that I made for a dance costume.

The dance has a 1920s aesthetics with lots of fringe and feathers that add tons of movement and visual interest when you move.

As I mentioned, some special-occasion items will not have a step by step tutorial, but you can still find inspiration to create your own.

If you want me to make one for you, contact me, I do take custom orders 🙂

I made this feather hair clip with a couple of feathers that I bought at a local arts and crafts store, but the rest of the materials I already had at home. For example, I repurposed a bridal garter for the white floral appliqué. I used glitter paint to add some color and dimension, and I glued some rhinestones for added sparkles and shine. I also glued a couple of fashion hairpins that I didn’t use very often.  I love my new feather hair clip!

Make sure to leave a comment, and if you make your own, show me what it looks like. Enjoy!
