1. First, clean your can with soap and water, making sure to get rid of as much of the paper label as possible.

2. Then, pull the clothespins apart carefully. If you are crafting with kids, you should do this part yourself to avoid injuries.

3. Now, glue some scrap fabric to the top of the can. You can use a couple of clothespins to secure the fabric to the can while the glue dries. But you need to make sure that you only glue the seam to the can. If you put glue all around the can, you won’t be able to use pins to hold the fabric in place while the glue dries because they’ll end up glued to the fabric.

4. Apply glue to each clothespin and glue them to the can. I do not recommend using super glue because it takes forever to dry. Hot glue guns tend to work better on metallic surfaces and it dries in a few seconds.

Decorating your homemade pencil holder

I wasn’t done recycling things with this craft!. One of the nice things about loving diy and crafting is that you always find things that you can reuse.

To finish this project, first I sprayed the can with silver spray paint. Then, I used several items that I already had: a black and silver ribbon that I had left from a costume, a black velvet ribbon that I had lying around, and some random black cord that I found in a drawer.

The only thing that I bought for this craft (because it was shiny) was some black ribbon with rhinestones.

Crafts like this one are great to recycle items and materials that you already have at home. Get creative!

Enjoy, and feel free to leave a comment. Let me know how your projects turn out 😀
